Women Picking Olives

At the end of 1889, Vincent van Gogh painted three versions of this composition. The present work, the most resolved and stylized of the group, was created as a gift for his mother and sister and reflects the artist’s confidence in its expressive power, which he noted had also been admired by Paul Gauguin.
