In the summer of 1874, Édouard Manet stayed with his family in Gennevilliers, just across the Seine from Claude Monet in Argenteuil. The artists met frequently, often joined by Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
While Manet painted Monet with his wife Camille Monet and their son Jean Monet, Monet portrayed Manet at his easel, and Renoir simultaneously created Madame Monet and Her Son. Together, these intertwined works capture a rare, intimate moment of artistic collaboration at the heart of Impressionism.
